Bosch Electric Bike Unlock Code: Which One to Choose and How It Works (2026)

Do you want to free your Bosch electric bike from the 25 km/h limit but do not know which code you need? It is the most common question — and the answer comes down to a single detail on your bike. In this 2026 guide we explain how to recognise your Bosch system in 30 seconds, which code to choose and how the unlock works.

Why your Bosch eBike is capped at 25 km/h

Every pedal-assist bike sold in Europe stops assisting at 25 km/h, by law. It is not a limit of the motor — which has far more potential — but a threshold set in software inside the Bosch system. The configuration code acts on that threshold, without touching the motor, battery or brakes.

The key step: recognising your Bosch system

The simplest and safest way to work out which code you need is to look at the charging port on your eBike.

🔵 Round port = BES2 system (Gen 2, 3 and 4)
This covers most Bosch eBikes from 2014 onwards: Active Line, Performance Line and Performance Line CX, with a Purion, Intuvia, Kiox or Nyon display.
→ You need the Bosch eBike Code Gen 1–4 (69,99 €).

⬭ Oval magnetic port = Bosch Smart System (BES3)
This is the most recent system (from 2022), with displays such as the Kiox 300 and Purion 200 and management through the Bosch Flow app.
→ You need the Bosch Smart System BES3 Code (179,99 €).

Golden rule: round port → Gen 1–4 code. Oval magnetic port → Smart System BES3 code. Look at the port and you already have your answer.

⚠️ The two codes are not interchangeable: the Gen 1–4 does not work on the Smart System and vice versa. Since digital codes are not refundable once delivered, check the port before ordering — or check for free with the Velocodix app.

What about Gen 1 (Classic Line)?

If you have an older eBike (2011–2014) with a Classic Line motor and an Intuvia display, it falls under the Gen 1–4 code. Note: the HMI display is generally not supported. If in doubt, check with us before ordering.

One detail worth knowing: the speed on the display

On BES2 systems (Gen 2–4), once configured, the display often shows roughly half the real speed. It is not a fault: it is the normal behaviour of the Bosch firmware in advanced configuration. Performance stays fully intact. On Gen 1 with Intuvia, by contrast, the speed reading stays correct.

On the Smart System BES3 the behaviour depends on the mode you choose: in the up-to-32 km/h mode the display shows the real speed, in the up-to-45 km/h mode it shows it halved.

Digital codes are not refundable once delivered, which is why we insist on checking beforehand: two photos are enough and we will reply. If you have already bought one, write to us and we will look at what can be done together.

Is a display showing half the speed broken?
