Sbloccare Bosch Gen 3 (Performance Line CX, BES2): Guida 2026

Unlocking Bosch Gen 3 (Performance Line CX, BES2): 2026 Guide

The third-generation Bosch system is quiet, efficient and fitted to a huge number of electric mountain bikes and modern city bikes. If you have an eBike with this system and you want to go beyond 25 km/h, this 2026 guide explains how advanced configuration works and how to be sure your system is the right one.

What Bosch Gen 3 is

The third generation keeps the BES2 architecture, but pairs it with Bosch's more modern displays such as Kiox, Nyon and Purion. It's the system that accompanied the boom in eMTBs and mid- to high-end electric trekking bikes.

The giveaway, as with Gen 2 and Gen 4, is the round charging port: that's what identifies the BES2 system.

Why it's limited to 25 km/h

The motor is set in software to stop assisting at 25 km/h, in line with European regulations on pedal-assist bikes. The motor's potential goes further: advanced configuration acts on that threshold.

How the code works

  • No dongles or chips to install: it's all software.
  • Instant delivery by e-mail, with a step-by-step guide.
  • Activation over a Micro-USB cable, connecting the eBike to your PC (a data cable, not a charge-only one).

Speed on the display

As with every system from Gen 2 to Gen 4, after configuration the display shows roughly half the real speed. That's normal Bosch firmware behaviour, not a fault: performance stays fully intact.

Compatibility: BES2 or Smart System?

The easiest way to tell is to look at the charging port:

The two codes are not interchangeable and are non-refundable once delivered. If you're not sure, check for free with the Velocodix app or send us a photo of the port and the display at info@velocodix.it: we'll check for you before you buy.

Frequently asked questions

No, there's no hardware modification.

The display reads half the speed: is that normal?
Yes, on configured Bosch Gen 2–4 systems.

How do I recognise a Gen 3?
Kiox/Nyon/Purion display and a round charging port (BES2).

Can I update my Bosch eBike?
Yes, on Bosch systems updates can be carried out as normal.

Legal notice

In Europe, eBikes are type-approved for assistance up to 25 km/h. Going beyond the limit is intended exclusively for use on private land and can affect the warranty, insurance and type-approval. Velocodix is not liable for any use that does not comply with the regulations in your country.

In short

With a Bosch Gen 3 (BES2, round port), configuration is simple and needs no hardware. Check the charging port, keep the halved display reading in mind, and you're ready to go.
