Unlocking Bosch Gen 2 (Active & Performance Line): 2026 Speed Guide
Do you have an eBike with a second-generation Bosch motor — an Active Line or a Performance Line — and want to free it from the 25 km/h limit? In this 2026 guide we look at what the Gen 2 system is, how the configuration code works and, above all, one detail about the display you need to know before you go ahead.
What Bosch Gen 2 is
The second generation marked a big step forward from the Classic Line. It covers the Active Line (city and trekking) and Performance Line (sportier use) motors, fitted from 2014 onwards on a huge number of brands. It pairs with the classic Bosch displays: Purion, Intuvia, Kiox and Nyon.
The most reliable way to recognise it is the round charging port: that is the hallmark of the BES2 system.
Why it is capped at 25 km/h
Like every European pedal-assist bike, the motor stops pushing at 25 km/h to comply with the regulations. It is not a limit of the motor but a software threshold: change that, and the motor keeps assisting you beyond it.
How the code works
No dongle, no cables to fit on the frame: it is all software.
- Instant delivery by e-mail after purchase, with a step-by-step guide.
- Activation via Micro-USB cable, connecting the eBike to your PC (a data cable, not just a charging one).
- No physical modification to the motor.

Important: the speed shown on the display
On Gen 2, once the configuration is active, the display shows roughly half the real speed. It is not a fault: it is a normal reaction of the Bosch firmware. Riding performance stays fully intact, the speedometer simply reads a halved value. It is worth knowing so you are not caught out on your first ride.
Compatibility: check the charging port
- Round charging port (BES2) → Bosch Code Gen 1–4 (69,99 €) ✅
- Oval magnetic port → this is a Bosch Smart System (BES3): you need the Bosch Smart System BES3 Code (179,99 €), not this one.
The two codes are not interchangeable and are not refundable once delivered. If in doubt, check for free with the Velocodix app or write to us at info@velocodix.it with a photo of the display and of the charging port: we will confirm compatibility before you buy.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to open up the motor?
No, it is all software: nothing is done to the hardware.
Is the display broken?
No, it shows half the speed: that is normal on configured Gen 2 systems.
How do I know if mine is a Gen 2?
Generally eBikes from 2014 onwards with a Purion/Intuvia/Kiox/Nyon display and a round charging port.
Can I still update my Bosch eBike?
Yes, on Bosch systems updates can be carried out as normal.
Legal notice
In Europe, eBikes are type-approved with assistance up to 25 km/h. Configurations that go beyond this limit are intended exclusively for use on private land and may affect warranty, insurance and type-approval. Velocodix is not responsible for any use that does not comply with local regulations.
In short
If you have a Bosch Gen 2 with a round charging port, the configuration is simple and requires no hardware. Just remember two things: check the port before ordering, and do not be alarmed if the display reads half the speed.
