How to Unlock the Speed of Segway Ninebot and Bosch eBike Simply and Safely
More and more electric scooter and eBike owners want to get the most out of their ride. Models such as the Segway Ninebot and eBikes with a Bosch motor leave the factory with a speed limit set in software, even when the mechanics could handle more.
There is a way to configure that limit without a chip, without a workshop and without taking anything apart: a digital code. In this guide we look at how it works for both families, what changes from one to the other, and the two rules you must not get wrong.
Segway Ninebot: how it works
The Segway Ninebot scooters are among the most widespread on the market, and advanced configuration is handled entirely in software.
- No hardware modification, no components to fit
- Activation via Bluetooth, from your smartphone
- Around 5 minutes in total
After your purchase you receive the code by email, usually within a few minutes, together with the step-by-step activation guide.
Models covered: MAX G2, G30, F2, F3, G3, G3D and the ZT3 series.
⚠️ The most important rule: do not update anything from the Segway-Ninebot app
Updates released by Segway can block the configuration. Do not carry out any update from the Segway-Ninebot app, either before or after activating the code. By far the most common reason codes stop working.

ZT3 series: check first
On the ZT3 series, compatibility depends on the Vehicle Controller firmware version, and it does not follow a progressive order: one version may work, the next one may not, and the one after that may work again. If you have a ZT3, check your version and write to us before you buy. Up-to-date details: firmware compatibility table.
Bosch eBike: two systems, two codes
On Bosch eBikes, the first thing to settle is which system you have, because the two are not compatible with each other.
Gen 1–4 — eBike Connect app, Intuvia, Purion, Kiox or Nyon display on the handlebar, no button in the frame. Activation via a Micro-USB data cable.
Smart System (BES3) — eBike Flow app, Kiox 300, Kiox 500 or Purion 200 display, power button and LED in the top tube of the frame. Activation via a USB-C data cable, with two modes: up to 32 km/h with the real speed on the display (the one we recommend) or up to 45 km/h with the display halved.
Careful: Gen 4 and Smart System are not the same thing. There are traditional Gen 4 bikes and Gen 4 Smart System bikes, with the same motor but different platforms. Full guide: Gen 1–4 vs Smart System BES3.
Why a digital code and not a chip
The alternative route — a chip fitted to the speed sensor — works by altering the signal that reaches the motor. On recent Bosch motors that is exactly what the plausibility check picks up, and it is the most common cause of error 504.
The digital code adds no components and does not touch the sensor: it works on the software configuration. Full comparison: chip tuning or digital code?

Delivered by email, usually within a few minutes. Step-by-step activation guide and technical support included.

If in doubt, write to us at info@velocodix.it stating the exact model — for Bosch eBikes a photo of the display is enough, for the ZT3 we need the firmware version — before you buy: the digital code is not refundable once delivered. Speed configuration is intended for use on private or authorised areas.
How long it takes
The procedure takes around 5 minutes, and the code usually arrives by email within a few minutes of your purchase. No workshop, no mechanic and nothing to dismantle — on the Smart System, just the two screws of the System Controller, to reach the USB-C port.
The two things not to get wrong
1. The model. On Bosch, the right code for the right generation. On Segway Ninebot ZT3 series, check the firmware before you buy. The digital code is not refundable once delivered, so checking beforehand is free and works out better for both of us.
2. Segway updates. On Segway Ninebot, no updates from the official app, either before or after. It is the rule that makes the difference between a configuration that lasts and one that gets blocked.
Regulations
Speed configuration is intended for use on private or authorised areas. On public roads, exceeding the applicable limits takes the vehicle out of the category it is type-approved for, with consequences in terms of type-approval, insurance and liability. Details in our legal information.
