Segway Ninebot MAX G3 versione tedesca (G3D): la lampada LED ambientale funziona con il software Velocodix

Segway Ninebot MAX G3 German Version (G3D): The Ambient LED Lamp Works with Velocodix Software

An important discovery for every G3D owner

If you bought the Segway Ninebot MAX G3 in the German version — the one with the letter D in the name, sold mainly in Germany, Austria and Switzerland — you've probably noticed something odd: where the Global version has an ambient LED light bar under the body of the scooter, your version just has a black plastic bar. No light, no visible connector, apparently nothing to be done.

Well, we have excellent news for you.

One of our customers recently bought the original Segway ambient LED lamp for the G3 on AliExpress, fitted it in place of the German version's plastic bar, and found that it works perfectly — including on/off control straight from the Segway app, made possible by the Velocodix advanced configuration software.

Why the German version doesn't come with the LED lamp

The answer is regulatory. In Germany and other European countries with stricter road rules, Segway removed some cosmetic and personalisation features from the version destined for those markets. The ambient LED lamp is one of them.

However — and this is the interesting part — the electrical connector for the lamp is physically there, underneath the plastic bar. Segway simply fitted a plastic cover in place of the light, but the wiring is there, ready to use.

That means anyone who wants to fit the lamp can do so without complex hardware modifications: just remove the plastic bar, plug the original lamp into the connector that's already there, and you're done.

How lamp control works with the Velocodix software

On the Global version of the Segway Ninebot MAX G3, the ambient LED lamp is controlled with the physical button on the handlebar. On the German version that button isn't there — but with the Velocodix software installed, control happens straight from the Segway app, in the Light effects section.

Our customer confirmed that after installing the Velocodix software, all of these options appear in the app:

  • Rear light — with "brighter when braking" or "flashes when braking" modes
  • Automatic headlight — switches on and off based on ambient light
  • Breathing rear light — pulsing effect while charging
  • Front position light — front presence light
  • Safety lights — extra visibility
  • Ambient LED lamp — on/off switching

All of these functions, which are blocked or missing on the original German version, become accessible and fully operational after installing the Velocodix advanced configuration software.

How to fit the LED lamp on the Segway Ninebot MAX G3D

Here are the general steps if you want to go ahead with the installation:

1. Buy the original lamp
Search AliExpress for "Ninebot MAX G3 LED ambient light" or "Segway G3 ambient bar LED". Make sure it's the original Segway version — not a generic aftermarket product — to guarantee compatibility with the original connector.

2. Remove the plastic bar
The cover bar is held in place by clips or screws depending on the version. Remove it carefully so you don't damage the bodywork.

3. Plug the lamp into the existing connector
Under the bar you'll find the original Segway electrical connector. Plug the lamp in — the connector is the same as on the Global version, so no adapters are needed.

4. Install the Velocodix software
Buy the advanced configuration code on velocodix.it, follow the installation procedure and open the Light effects section of the Segway app to control all the lighting functions.

5. Customise the settings
From the app you can choose the mode, effect and behaviour of each light individually.

What changes with the Velocodix software on the G3D version

The Velocodix advanced configuration software effectively turns the German G3D version into something much closer to the Global one, unlocking functions that Segway had disabled for that specific market:

  • Configurable top speed — beyond the factory limits
  • Zero start — setting off from 0 km/h with no initial kick
  • Cruise control (Tempomat) — automatic speed hold
  • Custom riding profiles — standard and tuning, with different speeds
  • Full control of the lights — including the ambient LED lamp

A confirmation that matters for the whole G3D community

This discovery — confirmed directly by one of our customers with photographic evidence — is important for the entire community of Segway Ninebot MAX G3 owners with the German version. It shows that the connector is compatible, that the lamp works, and that app control is possible thanks to the Velocodix software.

If you have a G3D too and you're considering this modification, know that the route has already been tested successfully. Do you have specific questions about the installation or compatibility? Write to us at info@velocodix.it — we're always here to help.
