Bosch Smart System USB-C: Dove si Trova la Porta e Come Utilizzarla nel 2026

Bosch Smart System USB-C: Where the Port Is and How to Use It in 2026

The Bosch Smart System is the most advanced evolution of Bosch eBike systems. Cube, Trek, Haibike, KTM, Scott and Cannondale fit it across most of their range, for connected features, wireless updates and greater personalisation.

One of the most common questions among owners concerns the USB-C port: where it is, what it's for and what it actually lets you do.

This guide gives you the answer, generation by generation, along with the most common mistakes — starting with the wrong cable, which on its own explains a good share of the “it doesn't work” cases.

Where the USB-C port is located

The position depends on the setup fitted to your bike. In most cases you'll find it:

  • On the Kiox 300 display
  • On the Kiox 500 display
  • On the Purion 200 display
  • On the System Controller integrated into the frame's top tube

On the System Controller the port sits underneath the module: remove the two screws, gently pull the component out of the frame and lift the rubber cap on the back. On many models the port is protected by a rubber cover against water and dust.

The right cable (the most common mistake)

Many cheap USB-C cables are charge-only: they carry power but don't transfer data. With one of these the system isn't recognised, and it looks like a faulty port when it isn't.

You need a USB-C data cable, certified USB 2.0 or higher, good quality and not excessively long.

How to tell whether your eBike is a Smart System

The most frequent confusion is between Smart System and Bosch Gen 4. Three quick checks:

App. eBike Flow → Smart System. eBike Connect → earlier generations (Gen 1–4).

Display and controls. Kiox 300, Kiox 500, Purion 200, LED Remote, System Controller → Smart System.

Frame. Power button and LEDs in the top tube → Smart System. Everything on the handlebar → Gen 1–4.

Important note: Gen 4 and Smart System are not the same thing. There are traditional Gen 4 bikes and Gen 4 Smart System bikes, with the same motor but different platforms. “Performance Line CX” on its own isn't enough either: it exists in both versions.

What the USB-C port is for

Diagnostics and maintenance. Reading the system status, stored errors and the firmware versions of the components.

Updates. Some tools communicate with the system over the cable, even though on the Smart System many updates arrive via the app.

Configuration. It's also the connection used to activate the Velocodix configuration code for Smart System.

Power. In some setups the port can power compatible devices.

Common problems

The system isn't detected. In order: a charge-only cable (cause number one), a connection that isn't fully seated, a dirty port, an incompatible device.

The connection drops. Faulty cable, a connector that moves, insufficient power.

The port seems dead. Before assuming a fault: try another data cable, clean the port, check that the device is compatible.

Bosch Smart System BES3 Code — Velocodix

Activation goes through this very USB-C port. Software configuration with two modes: up to 32 km/h with the real speed shown on the display (the one we recommend, as the system runs more stably) or up to 45 km/h with the display halved. No chip on the sensor, no component to fit. Delivered by email, usually within a few minutes.

Do you have a Bosch Gen 1–4 instead (eBike Connect app, display on the handlebar)? There, activation goes through a Micro-USB cable and you need the Gen 1–4 code. If in doubt, write to us at info@velocodix.it with a photo of your display before buying: the digital code is non-refundable once delivered. Speed configuration is intended for use on private land.

Which brands use the Bosch Smart System

In 2026 the platform is fitted across much of the mid and high-end range: Cube, Trek, Haibike, Scott, KTM, Cannondale, Focus, Ghost, Conway, R Raymon, Riese & Müller, Moustache, Corratec. Availability still depends on the production year and the specification.

Practical tips

  • Always use quality data cables, never charge-only cables
  • Put the rubber cap back after use: it protects against dust and moisture
  • Never force the connector
  • Check which system generation you have before buying any solution

In summary

The USB-C port is the access point of the Bosch Smart System: it's on the display or under the System Controller, depending on the specification, and it needs a data cable — not a charge-only one.

Before doing anything, make sure you know for certain whether your bike is a Smart System or a Gen 1–4: that single check prevents almost every mistake.
