Bosch Smart System Compatibilità: Quali eBike Sono Compatibili nel 2026?

Bosch Smart System Compatibility: Which eBikes Are Compatible in 2026?

Before you buy any accessory or solution for a Bosch eBike, there's only one question to settle: which system is installed on my bike?

Over the past few years Bosch has introduced several generations of motors and electronics, and a great many riders aren't sure whether they have a Gen 2, Gen 3, Gen 4 or the more recent Smart System. It's the mistake that most often leads to buying the wrong thing.

In this guide you'll see how to identify your Bosch system in a few seconds and which models are compatible with the Smart System in 2026.

What the Bosch Smart System is

The Bosch Smart System (technical designation BES3) is the most recent eBike platform developed by Bosch. Unlike the previous systems, all components communicate with each other through a new digital architecture connected to the Bosch eBike Flow app.

  • Wireless software updates (OTA)
  • Customisable assistance modes
  • Bluetooth connection
  • Advanced anti-theft features
  • Deeper smartphone integration

How to recognise it in 5 seconds

From the app. eBike Flow → Smart System. eBike Connect → Gen 1–4.

From the frame. Power button and status LEDs in the top tube (the System Controller) → Smart System. No button on the frame, everything on the handlebar → Gen 1–4.

These are the two most reliable checks, and they don't require you to know the bike's model or year.

Displays compatible with the Smart System

Kiox 300 — compact colour display, with navigation and advanced ride data.

Kiox 500 — a larger version of the Kiox 300, with better readability.

Purion 200 — integrated display, essential controls, minimalist design.

LED Remote — LED controller without a graphic display.

SmartphoneGrip — a mount that turns your smartphone into the main display.

Displays from the previous generations — Intuvia, Purion (first series), first-generation Nyon, Kiox — belong instead to the Gen 1–4 systems and are not interchangeable with the Smart System ones.

Motors compatible with the Smart System

Performance Line CX Smart System — the most widespread on electric mountain bikes.

Performance Line Smart System — designed for trekking and everyday use.

Cargo Line Smart System — built for cargo bikes and heavy transport.

Performance Line SX — a lightweight motor for the new generation of sporty eBikes.

Are Gen 4 and Smart System the same thing?

No — and this is by far the most common misunderstanding.

There are both traditional Gen 4 bikes and Gen 4 Smart System bikes. Two bikes with the same motor can therefore run completely different platforms, with apps, displays and components that aren't compatible with each other.

For the same reason, “Bosch Performance Line CX” on its own identifies nothing: it exists in both versions. Always go by the app and the frame, not by the motor name.

How to check your exact model

  1. Bosch app: eBike Flow or eBike Connect?
  2. Display and controls: check which model is fitted.
  3. The bike's spec sheet: the manufacturer normally states which Bosch system is used.
  4. Motor label: model number on the unit or in the original documentation.

Brands that use the Bosch Smart System

Cube, Haibike, Trek, Focus, Scott, KTM, Riese & Müller, Moustache, Cannondale, Corratec, Ghost, Conway, R Raymon. Availability depends on the year of production and the chosen build.

Smart System with ABS

Some premium models are fitted with the Bosch eBike ABS system, which improves braking safety. It's found mainly on high-end trekking eBikes, SUV eBikes and eMountain bikes. Compatibility with configuration solutions can vary depending on the model: in this case it's always worth checking beforehand.

Identified your system? Then you know which code you need

The Velocodix digital code acts on the software configuration of the drive system: no chip on the sensor, nothing to dismantle. It is generation-specific, and that's exactly the most common mistake we see — the reason this guide exists.

Smart System BES3 — €179.99Gen 1–4 — €69.99

Still unsure, especially if you have a Gen 4? Write to us at info@velocodix.it with a photo of your display before you buy: we'll tell you which system you have. The digital code is non-refundable once delivered. The speed configuration is intended for use on private property.

Frequently asked questions

Do all 2026 Bosch eBikes have the Smart System? No. Many recent models use it, but there are still new bikes with the previous systems.

Can I switch from Gen 4 to Smart System? Generally no: they are different platforms, with components that can't be swapped.

How do I find out which system I have? The quickest method is the app: eBike Flow → Smart System, eBike Connect → Gen 1–4. Confirm by looking at the frame's top tube.

Does Performance Line CX automatically mean Smart System? No. There are traditional CX versions and CX Smart System versions.

What if I order the wrong code? The two systems aren't compatible with each other and the digital code is non-refundable once delivered. That's why we prefer to check together before you buy.

In short

Correctly identifying the Bosch system fitted to your bike is the step that prevents most wrong purchases.

The eBike Flow app, a Kiox 300 / Kiox 500 / Purion 200 display and a power button in the frame are the clearest signs of the Smart System. If even one of these doesn't add up, check before going ahead.
