Segway's 29 July Update and Segway Ninebot Tuning: 2026 Status Update

Updated September 2026. This article was first written on 29 July, when Segway-Ninebot started rolling out a new firmware version and a lot of people asked themselves: "will my tuning still work?". The situation has changed twice since then, so read the updated version below.

Today's rule: do not update anything

This is the most important part, and it applies to every model, with no exceptions:

🔴 Do not carry out any update from the Segway-Ninebot app — not the scooter firmware, not before and not after installing the code.

The updates released by Segway are the most common cause of configurations that stop working. This is not a theoretical precaution: it is what we see every week in support requests.

If the app offers you an update, ignore it and close the screen.

What happened, in order

29 July 2026 — Segway rolls out new firmware that blocks the configuration on scooters that had already been configured.

30 July 2026 — The activation system is able to handle the new firmware again on all models except the ZT3 series.

September 2026 — After further releases from Segway, the recommendation has gone back to the most cautious one: do not update anything, on any model. Riders who updated after installing the code found their scooter locked.

The ZT3 series remains the trickiest case

🔴 ZT3, ZT3 Pro and ZT3D Pro: on this series compatibility depends on the specific Vehicle Controller firmware version, and it does not follow a progressive order — one version may work, the next may not, and the one after that may work again.

• Confirmed working: v1.5.5, v1.5.6, v1.5.15, v1.6.2
• Confirmed NOT working: v1.5.9
• To be verified: all versions not listed here, including v1.5.7 and v1.5.8

I have already updated and the tuning no longer works

Do not try things at random: you risk making the situation worse. Write to us at info@velocodix.it with your model and current firmware version, and we will tell you how to proceed in your specific case.

In many cases your code is still valid and no new purchase is needed — but it depends on the model and the version, so we would rather look at your situation than give you a generic answer.
